Showcasing BC’s wood expertise
CEI Architecture is providing architectural advisory services to Partnerships BC in the development of the proposed Wood Innovation and Design Centre. The Centre will be located in downtown Prince George and will promote expertise in advanced building systems, engineered wood products, interior wood design and applications, and other value-added wood products.
This multi-storey wood building will showcase British Columbia’s expertise and global reputation as a leader in wood construction and design, and engineered wood products. Its construction is intended to catalyze new wood product development, commercialization and adoption.
The Wood Innovation and Design Centre will house academic and research programs focused on advancing B.C.’s expertise in wood-related products. CEI Architecture is currently working with the University of Northern British Columbia on the functional programming and is a consultant to Forest Products Innovations in developing strategies for the use of advanced wood systems.
The Centre will also offer office space for provincial economic development and industry, and to the private sector for commercial use.
The Request for Qualifications to design and construct the building was released last month and will soon result in a shortlist of Design Build proponents. These shortlisted firms will be asked to provide proposals to Partnerships BC under the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation through a collaborative Request for Proposals that is anticipated in July of this year. Construction is currently scheduled to be complete by fall of 2014.
