CEI’s work on the East Coast: Wedgewood Park Aquatic Centre

After a successful design charrette with key stakeholders in Newfoundland, CEI is about to embark on the design development phase of this 65,000 square foot replacement for the Wedgewood Park Aquatic Centre.




Conrad attends the IAVM Conference 2012

The International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) Conference is North America’s largest assembly managers of indoor and outdoor spectator, convention, and entertainment facilities. A growing number of Canadians have been attending and taking leadership roles in this organization. Conrad Boychuk, CEI’s Director of Recreation and Venue Development, attended this year’s event, which took place July 21-24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Conrad had the opportunity to meet with operators of several of his facilities in both Canada and the United States. Conrad also attended a number of sessions, including “The Future of Multi-Purpose Sports & Entertainment Venues,” “ADA Venue Update,” and “Getting Naming Rights Right.”



In the heart of the Interior, a new cardiac care facility

CEI Architecture is proud to announce our newest healthcare project, the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre. Located on the Kelowna General Hospital campus, the new surgical centre will permanently house the fifth provincial cardiac surgery program in BC. This P3 project is led by Plenary Health and includes team members CEI Architecture, HOK Architects, PCL Constructors Westcoast, and Johnson Controls Inc.




Cancer Care opens in Northern B.C.

The BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North is complete. Staff have started to move in and the official opening will be sometime in the fall/winter 2012.

The Centre is part of the Northern Cancer Control Strategy, a partnership of the BC Cancer Agency, Northern Health and the Provincial Health Services Authority. The project team worked under the public-private partnership model to deliver the facility, with Plenary Health and PCL Constructors.

The Centre is targeting LEED Gold and includes many sustainable features including a green roof that captures rainwater and provides insulation. Check out new photography and learn more about the facility on its project page.



North Vancouver City Library takes top RAIC award in Urban Architecture

The North Vancouver City Library, a project in joint venture with Diamond and Schmitt Architects, has taken the top spot in the Urban Architecture category in the 2012 National Urban Design Awards from the Royal Architectural Institute.

Welcome, Kristoffer Biagtan

CEI would like to welcome Kristoffer Biagtan, the newest edition to our team. Kristoffer will be working as a Junior Technologist in the Vancouver studio.





Watch the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower take shape

A webcam has been set up to show live progress of the construction on the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower site.

The Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower, a project in Joint Venture with Parkin Architects, is the largest healthcare project in the history of British Columbia. The expansion will serve the fastest growing community in the province and is on target for completion in Fall 2014.

The centre of attention for green design

The Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence is one of 50 international architectural projects that won a 2012 Green GOOD DESIGN™ Award from the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.
