In the heart of the Interior, a new cardiac care facility

CEI Architecture is proud to announce our newest healthcare project, the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre. Located on the Kelowna General Hospital campus, the new surgical centre will permanently house the fifth provincial cardiac surgery program in BC. This P3 project is led by Plenary Health and includes team members CEI Architecture, HOK Architects, PCL Constructors Westcoast, and Johnson Controls Inc.

Following an intensive design and financial submission process, our team was selected on the criteria of providing an efficient hospital design to create a healing environment that is forward-thinking and flexible, expandable, and sustainable.

The Interior Heart and Surgical Centre will provide 15 operating rooms, including two dedicated cardiac operating rooms. Interior Health estimates that about 600 open heart procedures will be performed in the surgical centre each year. The Interior Heart and Surgical Centre also includes surgical support services, a cardiac surgical intensive care unit, a new and expanded central sterilization medical device reprocessing department, and a pre- and post-operative care unit.

“This new centre brings us closer to our goal of developing the KGH site into a world-class health care campus that serves the entire Interior Health region.” Interior Health board chair Norman Embree.

The Interior Heart and Surgical Centre will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold certification, helping to create a healthy and healing environment for patients and healthcare professionals.
