District of North Vancouver selects CEI Architecture to lead design of the new William Griffin Community Recreation Centre
Following a competitive Request for Proposals process, the District of North Vancouver has selected CEI Architecture as prime consultant for the design of the new William Griffin Community Recreation Centre.
CEI will work with the District of North Vancouver, the North Vancouver Recreation Commission (NVRC) and project managers MHPM on the facility.
The design will be based on a programming consultation completed by Professional Environmental Recreation Consultants (PERC) in the fall of 2011. The design will include the program elements outlined in the PERC report:
- Community recreation centre
- 25 meter, 6-lane pool plus leisure pool
- Racquet sport courts
- Fitness area
- NVRC administration offices
- Leased space
- Artificial turf field washrooms
“We are thrilled to have been selected to work with the District of North Vancouver on this project,” said Mark Hentze, partner at CEI Architecture. “Many of the design team members are residents of North Vancouver, so there is additional excitement for us in being able to contribute to a project in the community we choose to live in and one that our families, friends and neighbours will get to enjoy and benefit from for decades to come.”
CEI is currently working on sports, recreation and aquatic complexes in St. John’s, NL; Calgary, AB; Grand Prairie, AB and Thunder Bay, ON. Closer to home, CEI is the architect of the new Edmonds Aquatics and Recreation Centre, which will open in Burnaby in the spring of 2013.
