Crystal Centre Master Plan presented to Grande Prairie Council
CEI teamed with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Bird Construction to prepare a new Master Plan for the expansion of the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie. The report was presented to Council on April 1st, and the City has already started to move forward on several of the recommendations.
Edmonds Pool and Community Centre preparing to open
The Edmonds Pool and Community Centre is just weeks away from opening in Burnaby, BC. Residents of the community can look forward to amenities including a six-lane, 25-metre pool, leisure pool with zero beach entry, warm swim/therapy lanes, lazy river with two channels, double waterslide, modesty change spaces, and a series of innovative accessibility features. A community centre also features a 12,000 square foot twin gymnasium, fitness centre, a community kitchen, and multi-use and art rooms.
GEC Architecture of Calgary has submitted the development permit application for Quarry Park Recreation Centre. CEI Architecture is serving as sport architecture specialists on the project. This centrally located community centre is situated near an old City dump and has had several unique design challenges resulting from the associated site conditions, including accommodating especially challenging soils and ecological site measures. The program and resulting concept design were vetted through a number of key user groups and are now being reviewed by the YMCA, who were recently selected to be the facility operator.
Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre breaks ground
An official groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre in Burns Lake, Northern BC. This new $55 million facility will completely replace the existing hospital and health centre and enable the medical clinic and community services to be located together in the same building.

CEI Architecture is part of the team designing the new hospital and health centre, working with PCL Constructors Westcoast.
“The new hospital will be a welcome addition by families and health-care professionals alike,” said Nechako Lakes MLA John Rustad, on behalf of Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid. “Building patient care in Burns Lake with the replacement of Lakes District Hospital and Health Care has been a true community effort.”
Just 20 minutes away from the heart of the City of Victoria sits Prospect Lake in Saanich, once considered the cottage country of rural Victoria. The lake is now home to year-round residents, and is the site of CEI Architecture’s latest single-family home project.
