Architectural Sector Leader, Real Estate

Based out of the Vancouver, BC office, the primary responsibility of the Architectural Sector Leader, Real Estate is to develop new business opportunities and cultivate business relationships with Mixed-Use, Office, Multi-Family Residential, Retail, Industrial organizations and related institutions in British Columbia and Alberta. This position requires the ability to both win work and lead a commercial Real Estate sector within the architectural practice. The role includes a variety of duties ranging from annual planning to closing on pursuits and directing project teams.

 

Marketing & Business Development Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify and gather business leads for the Real Estate sector, and collaborate with other staff within HDR | CEI to develop strategies to bring these opportunities to closure
  • Increase awareness and understanding within the Real Estate community of HDR | CEI’s architectural Real Estate practice on a local, regional, and national basis
  • Develop, lead and monitor targeted marketing program strategies, goals and actions in cooperation with local, regional, national and global Real Estate marketing leaders
  • Lead the development of annual and long-term Real Estate strategic plans for BC and AB
  • Monitor marketing performance indicators, marketing report accuracy, budgets and costs, risk management and implement needed actions and process improvements within the Real Estate sector
  • Actively engage in pre-marketing activities including the development of leads, client relationships, sole source opportunities, pre-proposal visitations and marketing strategies
  • Participate in the writing of RFQs and RFPs including the strategy, message, methodology, schedule and fee development
  • In collaboration with other firm leaders, lead pursuit go / no-go and strategy discussions
  • Direct pursuit interview strategies and implementation
  • Direct preparation of capture plans and qualifications for pursuits
  • Participate in relevant business organizations and activities to promote HDR | CEI
  • Represent HDR | CEI at select industry events including speaking engagements and for the purpose of building industry relationships

Project Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Director on projects (as appropriate)
  • Support  Project Managers with the preparation, negotiation and award of project contracts
  • Provide client oversight throughout project execution including conformance to client expectations for technical/quality, financial and schedule performance
  • Maintain client relations during and following completion of projects
  • Assist with project close-out and post-occupancy evaluations
  • Participate in monthly project financial reviews

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial Real Estate sector team by assessing strengths and weaknesses of personnel over time; growing, developing and maintaining expertise
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to staff to assist in their career development
  • Collaborate with all of HDR | CEI’s BC and AB offices to implement key initiatives, key hires, investments and strategies for growth and increased profitability
  • Ensure that as a sector, Real Estate work is meeting the business objectives for the provinces, including goals for repeat work and profit
  • Participate in relevant community activities and service that furthers the firm’s vision and values

Required Qualifications

  • Professional degree in architecture
  • Professional architectural registration
  • 15+ years’ architectural Real Estate [Mixed-Use, Office, Multi-Family Residential, Retail, Industrial] experience
  • Proven business development experience in architectural Real Estate sector and an existing network of clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in developing and managing diverse teams
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Willingness to travel for business development and project assignments

Project Architect

We are looking for a Project Architect who we can mentor into a senior, leadership role, specifically specializing in recreation and community projects. This is a multifaceted role which alongside of project work will include public speaking, developing client relationships and mentoring junior and intermediate staff.

Your project work and leadership skills must demonstrate a willingness to dive into the details as well as be able to see the big picture. You are an innovator who consistently looks for ways of improving projects for our clients and also in your work environment. You are passionate about design regardless of obstacles and the budget.

 

It is not necessary that you possess all of the required skills at the time of hire but you will be evaluated based on your soft skills, current strengths and potential to learn the role.

 

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for creative concepts/solutions for complex architectural projects and coordinate a multidisciplinary team; perform all aspects of the project scope
  • Perform responsibilities on all phases of the project; delegate tasks when necessary
  • Meet directly with the owner/client, analyze project goals, conceive and develop architectural concepts/solutions for those goals; for projects involving the community, actively participate in public facilitation, open houses, workshops and charrettes
  • Establish owner/client and internal meetings, and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for rezoning, development permits and building permits
  • Represent our firm by participating as a key member of our business development team in marketing to prospective owners/clients
  • Work with various disciplines throughout all phases to ensure all concepts/solutions accommodate project needs and the owner’s program
  • Coordinate workload of team members through multiple phases to complete documents on schedule
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • 5+ years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Proven mediation, negotiation and conflict resolutions skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired

Managing Principal

We are currently searching for a Managing Principal to lead our Vancouver architecture office. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who desires to lead an established architectural practice for an internationally recognized firm. The primary responsibility of the Managing Principal is for strategic vision, leadership, inspiration, quality assurance, and profitability of the office to ensure the annual plan is implemented. This individual will increase the awareness of HDR | CEI’s architectural practice in the Vancouver, British Columbia and Alberta markets while contributing to the reputation of the firm domestically and internationally.

 

To achieve success, the Managing Principal will work directly with the business development group to develop relationships with target clients and pursue new projects in Vancouver as well as the western region. The pursuit of new work will be in a collaborative manner with local designers, technical leaders, and national experts as required. This individual will oversee and direct the activities of personnel within the office including implementing annual plans, marketing strategies, public relations, project planning, financial planning and management, staff planning and oversight and other related matters. This position will be responsible for establishing local office policies / procedures and adherence to corporate policies, project contract financial fee and budget information in conjunction with Marketing and Project Management, and establishment and/or maintenance of quality control processes and procedures. The Managing Principal may be required to lead and manage teams on projects.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture; professional registration.
  • 15+ years experience working in an architectural practice; previous management experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership, project management and organizational skills.
  • Capacity to lead teams and making client presentations.
  • Service and client related personality.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Ability to travel.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to individuals with strong ties and connections in the local market.
  • Stronger consideration will be given to candidates with Healthcare, Higher Education, Science + Technology and/or Civic project experience.
