A new addition to CEI’s Recreation Team

CEI welcomed Larry Podhora to our Recreation team as a Senior Architect with a Business Development role in September. Larry has more than 30 years of professional experience in building design and construction, with a specialization in the design of sport and recreation facilities.

Congratulations, Robert Cesnik!

CEI is pleased to announce our newest Associate, Robert Cesnik. Robert joined CEI’s Kelowna office in August 2010 with the acquisition of Bevanda Architecture. As a project architect at CEI, he has recently worked on the Lefebvre-Smyth Residence, Terravista Vineyards and Black Hills Wine Experience Centre.

Welcome, Tara Simmer

We’d like to extend a warm welcome to Tara Simmer, who has joined the CEI team as an Intermediate Architect in the Vancouver studio. Tara is originally from Saskatoon, and attended school and worked in Calgary for a number of years before moving to Vancouver. Tara is currently working on the Emily Carr University of Art + Design project.

Welcome, Julie Gaudet

CEI is pleased to welcome a friendly new face to our Vancouver office: Julie Gaudet. Julie joined CEI as an Interior Designer at the beginning of August and is currently working on a variety of projects including TD Canada Trust interiors, Retirement Concepts and IBM. Julie is also helping with the redesign of the CEI Vancouver studio.

Conrad Boychuk embarks on the Paralympic Observer Program

Conrad Boychuk will be joining Klaus Meinel (Germany) and Karin Schwarz-Viechtbauer (Austria) as official observers at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Conrad, Klaus and Karin are Executive Board members of the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS), which has an ongoing partnership with the Paralympic Games organizing body, the International Paralympic Commission.

Mark Hentze represents IAKS at SportAccord

This past May, Mark Hentze was asked to represent IAKS at the SportAccord Convention in Quebec City. The conference gave Mark an opportunity to see the sport and recreation business and culture from an entirely new perspective.

The focus at SportAccord was on the global impact of sport with featured topics ranging from social media’s affect on how sports are marketed, the preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, to socially responsible sport.

Q&A with Conrad Boychuk: His StadiaExpo experience

In May, CEI’s Conrad Boychuk was invited to participate in this year’s Stadia Design and Technology Expo (StadiaExpo). Conrad was one of the inaugural participants of this event, which started in New York City in 2010, and was involved in the subsequent 2011 and 2012 events, both held in Los Angeles. ACCESS sat down with Conrad to discuss the conference and its evolution.

Conrad attends the IAVM Conference 2012

The International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) Conference is North America’s largest assembly managers of indoor and outdoor spectator, convention, and entertainment facilities. A growing number of Canadians have been attending and taking leadership roles in this organization. Conrad Boychuk, CEI’s Director of Recreation and Venue Development, attended this year’s event, which took place July 21-24 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Conrad had the opportunity to meet with operators of several of his facilities in both Canada and the United States. Conrad also attended a number of sessions, including “The Future of Multi-Purpose Sports & Entertainment Venues,” “ADA Venue Update,” and “Getting Naming Rights Right.”
