Revolution Place Master Plan

Grande Prairie’s Revolution Place (previously Crystal Centre) is the city’s main entertainment venue, hosting numerous concerts, trade shows, banquets and hockey games each year. In early 2013, HDR | CEI, teamed with PricewaterhouseCoopers and Bird Construction, was asked to prepare a new Master Plan for the expansion of the facility.

This project paralleled PwC and HDR | CEI’s recent work on the Thunder Bay Event Centre, and would require a similar feasibility study to justify any future infrastructure expansions.

After a critical review of the Northern Alberta market along with an analysis of pre-existing, competing facilities was completed, the needs of a renewed Revolution Place were identified. Ultimately, an expansion of 73% was recommended, increasing the existing 104,626 sq ft facility to 180,800 sq ft. This expansion would include additional fixed seats and private suites for the Canada Games Arena, and expanded kitchen facilities and back-of-house capabilities for the Bowes Family Crystal Gardens.

The final report was presented to City Council on April 1, 2013, and the City is currently moving forward on several of its recommendations.
