Hollyburn Country Club Arena Upgrades

Hollyburn Country Club’s rink is home to a full figure skating program instructed by National Level coaches, and the Hollyburn Hockey program, offering a variety of programs for youth ladies and men’s ice hockey players. The Hollyburn Hockey program also oversees the Hollyburn Minor Hockey Association.

The arena at Hollyburn was due for an upgrade; the original ice slab had failed several decades before and as an interim measure, a new sand refrigeration slab had been employed. The Club also wanted to increase the size of the undersized slab to more closely approximate professional standards. The ice slab replacement project instigated upgrades to the entire arena in stages completed over two off-seasons.

Phase one involved the complete refurbishment of the arena dressing rooms and the creation of a figure skating change room, complete with a ballet bar for pre-ice warm up. The dressing rooms were all upgraded and provided with new enlarged showers, millwork and finishes, while the Club’s home team room’s makeover provided enhanced finishes for Club members.

Phase two included the arena slab replacement which also included new arena support systems (dasher boards, score clocks, etc.) and a refurbishment of the warm viewing space that provides views to the arena as well as the Club’s aquatic centre. Behind the scenes improvements included seismic upgrades, an overhauling of the refrigeration and ammonia systems in the arena, and a revised exiting strategy.
