Prystay Residence

Back

Feels like home.

Located on the east banks of Penticton, above Skaha Lake, this residence is designed for a local businessman and his wife, a musician and painter. The building is nestled into hills, oriented towards the views, and designed to integrate indoor and outdoor living environments in the stunning natural setting of the Okanagan.

The building represents traditional residential forms, accentuated by natural and durable materials: rock, clay tile, engineered fir beams, concrete, stucco and glass. The interior planning is organized around a central great room, for social gatherings and day-to-day lounging. The kitchen and a small powder room support the great room. A music and art studio is separated, to isolate visitors and students. The master bedroom suite is also positioned as a separate suite located to the south of the great room, and incorporates a large ensuite and closet space.

The garage was located over a low point on the site, to minimize its presence. The main floor, constructed over the garage, ties into the elevations of the property, allowing maximum southwest exposure, and wide views of the outdoors from the comfort of home.
