Songshan Lake International K-12 School‹ Back
The Huawei Corporation, as a benefit to their executives and their families, has initiated development of K-12 international schools in areas missing these critical pieces of infrastructure. The Songshan Lake International School is the first of these facilities.
The new school will be housed in a 20,000 square metre, five storey existing industrial building in a developing part of Dongguan, China. With an enrollment of 1,300 students, the school is organized around the large existing atrium, in which a library/learning commons structure and gathering stairs to improve wayfinding have been inserted, giving the school a heart.
The school’s learning spaces have been organized to support a variety of organizational models. The lower floors are designed to house the elementary school, the middle floors for the middle school and the upper floors for the high school. Common use facilities are located on the ground floor.
HDR | CEI’s role in the project has encompassed programming, conceptual design and design development. Moving forward, HDR | CEI will be working with a local Chinese architectural firm to maintain design, integrity and intent through the development of contract documents and construction.
