UBC Sports Hall of Fame
‹ BackShowcasing 100 years of athletic history.
The UBC Sports Hall of Fame was created to showcase and celebrate UBC’s top athletes and provides a resource centre for 100 years of UBC history.
The two main goals for the interior renovation project were to draw traffic into the Hall of Fame and to create a welcoming place with significant sports history at UBC’s Thunderbird Sports Centre.
The project team looked for inspiration from the traditional post-and-beam design of the UBC Museum of Anthropology. The use of wood together with well-placed lighting and contemporary materials such as resin panels creates a warm and welcoming space—giving the top athletes the attention they deserve.
Programmable features include framed images, glass showcases, cabinets, storage areas and fully adjustable lighting. An interactive video display provides access to a wealth of archival material—much more than could be accommodated in traditional display cases. The Hall of Fame is designed be easily rearranged and recombined, ensuring that displays are not static and can be continually updated and renewed.
The interior design includes sustainable features such as low voltage, energy-efficient dimmable LED lighting, resin panels, Marmoleum flooring, and low VOC paints.
