Paul Reynolds Community Centre

Park place.

The new $32,000,000 Paul Reynolds Community Centre at Wedgewood Park is a 73,750-square-foot facility that replaces an existing facility, upgrading the recreation and fitness opportunities for its community in St. John’s, NL. Program elements include a six-lane lap pool, leisure pool, gymnasium, community rooms, child minding area, senior’s centre and youth centre.

Designed by HDR | CEI in collaboration with prime consultants Fougere Menchenton Architecture, the new centre is located within Wedgwood Park, which allowed programs to continue in the old building while new centre was under construction.

The project began with HDR | CEI’s highly regarded collaborative design charrette, which allowed for a full engagement of the project’s key stakeholders in the creation of the concept design.

Wedgewood Park is adjacent to an established residential community. Both the placement and massing of the new design is sensitive to this existing context. A new entrance to the site minimizes traffic through the existing residential neighbourhood.

The new centre includes many sustainability initiatives, and is pursuing a Green Globes rating.
