Winning teams for winning recreation projects

Congratulations to Cloverdale Recreation Centre and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex on receiving 2012 BCRPA Facility Excellence Awards. The award recognizes excellence in facility concept, design development, maintenance and operation. These facilities demonstrate outstanding innovation and are making a significant impact in the Recreation and Parks field.

Poirier is also the recipient of a Canadian Consulting Engineering Award of Excellence in the buildings category, awarded to IMEC Mechanical and AME Consulting Group, and a Vancouver Regional Construction Association Gold Award of Excellence for Sustainable Construction and Innovation, which was awarded to IMEC Mechanical for the Thermenex thermal energy exchange system.

Cloverdale Rec Centre in Canadian Architect

Canadian Architect has profiled the Cloverdale Recreation Centre, hailing it as a building that “sets a new standard for community facilities.”

The article goes on to say:

“Fundamental to the design was the use of uniform curved wooden trusses. Varying their orientation allowed the interior spaces to achieve heights needed to meet programmatic objectives and contribute to an incredibly fluid, evocative architectural expression.”
